MINI-BOOKLETS

Mini-booklets are core educational tools used during ARCHES counseling sessions. Designed to fit in the palm of a hand, they are discreet, easy to conceal, and provide critical information for women to reflect on their experiences with reproductive coercion (RC) and intimate partner violence (IPV). Each booklet includes guidance on where to seek help, available family planning (FP) and IPV services, and information about contraceptive methods that can be used privately.

Women participating in ARCHES have consistently described the mini-booklets as powerful resources—deepening their understanding of coercion, violence, and supportive strategies to maintain reproductive autonomy. Many choose to share them with others in their community, and some have even used them to open conversations with partners or post them in online women’s empowerment spaces. Importantly, the decision to accept a booklet is always left to the client. For some, possessing this information may pose safety concerns. However, prior studies have found no evidence that accepting a booklet increases the risk of violence or coercion.

Below, you’ll find online versions of the mini-booklets to support broader access and sharing, including through digital networks. Two versions are available: one for family planning clients and one for abortion clients. The abortion version also includes information on post-abortion contraceptive options. Each type comes in three regional variations, tailored to the predominant languages and cultural contexts of different global regions. All versions are currently available in English. Each booklet can be customized with local facility and support service information. A QR code on the back links to the online version for easy access and reprinting.
